It is of vital importance that each individual soul recover this lost sense of sin and to begin the struggle to conquer the deadly sins that threaten his or her salvation. The Manual for Conquering Deadly Sin will help you do just that in your own life. In any struggle, you must know your enemy. Hence, Part I: - Defines sin and distinguishes between mortal and venial sins. - Examines each of the classical seven deadly sins: lust, gluttony, avarice, sloth, anger, envy, and pride. - Reveals their causes, manifestations, and more. - Provides specific advice and remedies for conquering each deadly sin in your own life. - Identifies those corresponding virtues which must be cultivated in order to rid yourself of deadly sin. Part II, features a compilation of passages from Church teaching and Scripture, along with quotes from the saints that complement and give life to the reflections in Part I. As Fr. Kolinski makes clear-- the truest medicine is found in the sacramental life of the Church. But, in addition to the graces found in frequent confession and reception of the Eucharist, the Manual for Conquering Deadly Sin will be an indispensable aid in your fight; an invaluable resource for every person serious about salvation.

"THEY" Cripple Society Volume 2 is an expose consisting of true to life stories of discrimination in society against fine, smart, well cultured people. The qualities of these people, and of their assailants, are uniquely explored by the author, exposing a serious cultural problem. This is a continuation of the expose of true to life stories featured in "THEY" Cripple Society Volume 1. About the Author: Cleon E. Spencer, in his early adult life, had a wide variety of experiences in commerce, industry and government, in which he was employed for several years. During that time, he and his wife lived in a variety of cities and towns, and traveled in various parts of North America. He later went into the ordained ministry of a mainline denomination. Over the years he got to know people of rural, suburban and urban settings. Having lived in a fair number of places in eastern North America, and having traveled in most other areas of the two countries that make it up, he has had a wide variety of experiences with people. Because of the kind of person the author is, many of his adverse experiences in particular were unique to a person of his makeup, as also it was for his wife, and many of their acquaintances. During his career he has come to know many other people who are exceptional in some ways and have had similar experiences as his own. It is on these unique experiences in the marketplace of society and in the church that the writings of this book are based. The hope of the author is that the book will promote a type of personal character that will rise above the harmful maladies of culture written of herein. The author and his wife Ada recently celebrated their fifty-eighth year of happy marriage.

The seven deadly sins are generals leading a vast and deadly army. The soldiers are a variety of sins and misdeeds, and the capital sins are the officers who sent them on their nefarious tasks. With the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas as his guide, best-selling author Kevin Vost tackles the deadly sins one-by-one, showing how they take root in our soul and give birth to offspring — other sinful thoughts and deeds that help it reach its sinful goals. You’ll learn how they attacks us, and how they become ingrained habits that prevent virtue from raising us to heaven. Indeed, these sins hold us down to earth — and possibly, ultimately, even much lower. The deadly sins can be conquered, and in these pages you’ll learn the methods employed by saints to vanquish vicious habits and replace them with virtuous ones. Follow the advice in this book, and you’ll soon strike at the head of sin and walk more positively in the light and love of Christ. You’ll also learn: Which sin can truly be called the deadliest in the world Why there are only seven deadly sins What takes place within our souls when we grapple with sin The relationship between vices and sins - and how to sever their bonds How each and every deadly sin is outnumbered by several opposite virtues Six deadly dominoes: Do you know the sins that almost always cause us to commit additional sins? How “the mother of the virtues” dethrones “the queen of the vices” Seven sacramental and saint-sanctioned strategies to call forth God’s graces to grapple with each deadly sin

Heated words, cool malice, deadly feuds, the furious rush of adrenaline-anger is clearly the most destructive of the seven deadly sins. It can ruin families, wreck one's health, destroy peace of mind and, at its worst, lead to murder, genocide, and war. In Anger, Robert A. F. Thurman, best-selling author and one of America's leading authorities on Buddhism and Eastern philosophy, offers an illuminating look at this deadliest of sins. In the West, Thurman points out, anger is seen as an inevitable part of life, an evil to be borne, not overcome. There is the tradition of the wrathful God, of Jesus driving the money-changers from the temple. If God can be angry, how can men rid themselves of this destructive emotion? Thurman shows that Eastern philosophy sees anger differently. Certainly, it is a dreadful evil, one of the "three poisons" that underlie all human suffering. But Buddhism teaches that anger can be overcome. Indeed, the defeat of anger is not only possible, but also the only thing worth doing in a lifetime. Thurman shows how to recognize the destructiveness of anger and understand its workings, and how we can go from being a slave to anger to becoming "a knight of patience." We discover finally that when this deadliest emotion is transmuted by wisdom, it can become the most powerful force in freeing us from human suffering. Drawing on the time-tested wisdom of Buddhism, Robert A. F. Thurman ranges from the individual struggle with anger to global crises spurred by dogmatic ideologies, religious fanaticism, and racial prejudice. He offers a path of calm understanding in a time of terrorism and war.
