Not illustrated. 1882 edition. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER X. ODDS AND ENDS. 149. Odds and Ends.--The scope of the foregoing chapters has compelled us to leave unmentioned certain matters relating to clothing that have, nevertheless, a considerable importance. And the size of this volume does not permit us to add further chapters. We have, therefore, assembled here certain odds and ends of information or advice for clothing under special circumstances, as bed-clothes, the laying-by of clothes for winter and summer, and other details. They have no more connection one with the other than odds and ends usually have. Our idea is that they may have some connection with the various and varied wants of our readers. 150. For an invalid or bedridden person they should never be used. Some folks accustom themselves to sleep under heavy clothing. Anecdotes are related of travellers who are unable to sleep under a French duvet unless weighted by the superposition of an open portmanteau, and of agricultural poor who, in default of warmer covering, place a...
