Excerpt from The Commercial Advertiser Directory for the City of Buffalo, 1848-1849: Containing, in Addition to the Usual Matter, a Sketch of the Early History of Buffalo In conclusion, we would. Distinctly repeat our proposal of last year that it is our intention to publish a Directory of the city annually - 41nd with succeeding years hope so to improve upon its appearance' and mat ter as to make it every way worthy of general support. Having our arrangements now made the public may depend upon seeing us annu ally, and at as early a date in the season as may be practicable, having due regard to being correct. At the end of the list of names will be found a few names which were not received in time to be placed in their proper arrangement. It may not be improper here to drop a word to our citizens generally on the importance of seeing that correct information is given to collect ors of names. Much trouble has been experienced in this department - in many instances the answering questions has been deputed to per sons entirely incompetent - and doubtless many errors have arisen in consequence. It is a trifling matter for each housekeeper to prepare a list of the heads of the family, boarders, &c., and we hope another year our citizens will bear this more generally in mind. A good and correct Directory is a matter of common interest to every citizen, and it can only be produced by a general and cordial co-operation.
