This volume consists of a facsimile reprint of the 1928 publication "Historical Sketch of Protestant Missions in Siam 1828-1928," preceded by a lengthy introduction, commentary, and bibliography titled "Protestantism in Thailand" by Herbert R. Swanson, Office of History, Church of Christ in Thailand. The "Historical Sketch" was edited, published, and financed by Dr. George B. and Mrs. Bertha B. McFarland. It was an edited collection of essays written by various authors, commissioned as a companion volume to a three-day celebration of the 100th anniversary of Protestant missions in Thailand, held in the Royal Saranromya Gardens in Bangkok, Thursday-Saturday, 6-8 December 1928. Of the introductory section, "Protestantism in Thailand," Swanson wrote: "The purpose of this introductory essay and the commentary that follows is to assist readers in their use of McFarland's 'Historical Sketch' by providing additional information on and insights into the book's historical context, perspectives, and reliability"--Introduction, p.vii-viii.
