Clara was the youngest of the ten children of John and Clarissa Seavey Swain. She was born in Elmira, N. Y., but when she was two years old her parents returned to their old home in Castile and here she spent her early life. Dr. Clara Swain travels to India and does so much to relieve the suffering of the subjects of the Nawab of Rampore that he gives her his ancient palace, which she converts to a hospital known as the Palace of Healing.
