DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe current Special Issue of Minerals entitled “New Mineral Species and Their Crystal Structures” contains articles with full descriptions of recently discovered mineral species (verneite, thermaerogenite, parafiniukite, nöggerathite-(Ce), cerromojonite, aurihydrargyrumite, sharyginite, fiemmeite, oyonite, tiberiobardiite, and ariegilatite) and with recent results in the investigation of structures for minerals which were insufficiently studied in the crystal chemical aspect (rusinovite, barioferrite, kurchatovite, and clinokurchatovite). The described new minerals demonstrate a great chemical and structural diversity and are characterized by different formation conditions and mineral associations. The mineralogical discoveries come from many different localities around the world. All articles were prepared to a high scientific level, and the authors used a lot of modern methods for their investigation of the solid. The papers published in this Special Issue can be of interest not only to mineralogists and mineral collectors but also to physicists and chemists of solid, and specialists in the field of materials science.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKProvides an up-to-date introduction to the subject of ore microscopy, emphasizing the basic skills required for the study of opaque minerals in polished sections. Describes the modern ore microscope, the preparation of polished and polished-thin sections of opaque minerals and ores, and the identification of these minerals using both qualitative techniques and the quantitative methods of reflectance and microhardness measurement. Later sections discuss the interpretation of textural intergrowths of ore minerals and the determination of their paragenesis, along with the examination of coexisting minerals for determining their physio-chemical conditions of formation. Appendices contain the data necessary to identify approximately 100 of the more common ore minerals and those frequently encountered by the professional scientist.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKDesigned for geologists and engineers engaged specifically in the search for gold deposits of all types and as a reference for academics in higher schools of learning, Handbook of gold exploration and evaluation provides principles and detailed explanations that underpin the correct interpretation of day-to-day experience in the field. Problems are addressed with regard to the analysis, interpretation and understanding of the general framework within which both primary and secondary gold resources are explored, developed and exploited.Handbook of gold exploration and evaluation covers a comprehensive range of topics including the nature and history of gold, geology of gold ore deposits, gold deposition in the weathering environment, sedimentation and detrital gold, gold exploration, lateritic and placer gold sampling, mine planning and practise for shallow deposits, metallurgical processes and design, and evaluation, risk and feasibility. - Covers the nature and history of gold - Addresses problems with regard to the framework in which gold resources are explored, developed and exploited - Discusses topics including the geology of gold ore deposits, metallurgical processes and design, evaluation, risk and feasibility

DOWNLOAD EBOOKMineral deposits have supplied useful or valuable material for human consumption long before they became objects of scientific curiosity or commercial exploitation. In fact, the earliest human interest in rocks was probably because of the easily accessible, useful (e. g. , red pigment in the form of earthy hematite) or valuable (e. g. , native gold and gemstones) materials they contained at places. In modem times, the study of mineral deposits has evolved into an applied science employing detailed field observations, sophisticated laboratory techniques for additional information, and computer modeling to build complex hypotheses. Understanding concepts that would someday help geologists to find new mineral deposits or exploit the known ones more efficiently have always been, and will continue to be, at the core of any course on mineral deposits, but it is a fascinating subject in its own right, even for students who do not intend to be professional economic geologists. I believe that a course on mineral deposits should be designed as a "capstone course" that illustrates a comprehensive application of concepts from many other disciplines in geology (mineralogy, stratigraphy and sedimentation, structure and tectonics, petrology, geochemistry, paleontology, geomorphology, etc. ). This book is intended as a text for such an introductory course in economic geology, primarily for senior undergraduate and graduate students in colleges and universities. It should also serve as a useful information resource for professional economic geologists.
