DOWNLOAD EBOOKS2Component biomass prediction equations are presented for young black spruce (Picea mariana B.S.P. (Mill.)) in northern Maine. A weighted least squares model was used to construct the equations for small trees from 1 to 15 cm d.b.h., and an ordinary least squares model for trees less than 2 m in height. A linearized allometric model was also tested but was not used. Equations were developed for oven-dry needle, branch, bolewood, bolebark, aboveground, root, and complete tree biomass components. Aboveground components accounted for approximately 80 percent, and stump (less than 6 cm in height) plus roots accounted for 20 percent of the complete tree oven-dry biomass accumulation.S3.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKA database consisting of 2,640 equations compiled from the literature for predicting the biomass of trees and tree components from diameter measurements of species found in North America. Bibliographic information, geographic locations, diameter limits, diameter and biomass units, equation forms, statistical errors, and coefficients are provided for each equation, along with examples of how to use the database. The CD-ROM included with the paper version of this publication contains the complete database (Table 3) in spreadsheet format (Microsoft Excel 2002® with Windows XP®). The database files can also be viewed in both spreadsheet and pdf formats by directing your browser to the Global Change page at http://www.fs.fed.us/ne/global/pubs/books/index.html

DOWNLOAD EBOOKProceedings of a workshop co-sponsored by the USDA Forest Service, the State University of New York, and the Society of American Foresters. Presented were papers on the methodology of sample tree selection, tree biomass measurement, construction of biomass tables and estimation of their error, and combining the error of biomass tables with that of the sample plots or points. Also presented were papers on various aspects of biomass research currently being conducted in the United States, Canada, and abroad.
