Thomas Carter Sr. (ca. 1680-1738) immigrated from England to Henrico (later Goochland) County, Virginia during or before 1713, and married three times. Josiah Carter (1745-1822) was a direct descendant in the third generation. He married Mary Anthony in Bedford County, Virginia and moved to Putnam County, Georgia.
