The poems in this collection represent, for the most part, my experience with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome---AIDS---both on a personal level and as response to the illness and death among so many friends, lovers, and others.I have learned unexpectedly that AIDS is not the end of my ife;cocktails of effective drugs, replete with some of the familiar, disagreeable side- effects, keep me quite alive.I am as encouraged to live on as I feel deadened by the memory of this lasting plague. A beautiful new collection from Mary Jo Salter brings us poems of puzzlement and acceptance in the face of life's surprises. "I'm still alive and now I'm in Bratislava," says the speaker of one of Salter's poems, as she travels with her unlikely late-in-life love, a military man. She never expected to be here, to know someone like him, to be parted from her previous life; how did it happen? Alex Dimitrov’s third book, Love and Other Poems, is full of praise for the world we live in. Pantoums and Other Poems is the result of an exercise the Suncoast Authors and Writers Group partook in writing the Pantoum style of poetry.
