DOWNLOAD EBOOKCe livre est l’accomplissement d’une réflexion engagée depuis une dizaine d’années sur les effets du changement climatique : changement de la discipline historique elle-même, du rapport de l’homme au temps et au monde, et finalement de la condition humaine. Chakrabarty a bien compris que le "global" (autrement dit ce que nous appelons "mondial") de la mondialisation et le "global" du changement climatique ne sont pas des notions homogènes. Rendre compte du second suppose une approche nouvelle et particulière : rien de moins que l’élaboration d’une anthropologie philosophique. Le problème est que, dès les Temps modernes, nous avons appris à distinguer deux ordres de globalité : le premier relève du temps régi par l’histoire, le deuxième du temps réglé par la nature. Or, nous avons compris depuis une vingtaine d’années que le temps humain agissait sur le temps naturel. Nous savons notamment que notre action sur la Terre a déjà modifié le climat pour peut-être cent mille ans. C’est ce que l’on a nommé "l’Anthropocène", et que Chakrabarty appelle "l’entrée dans l’âge planétaire". La difficulté est évidente : nous avons affaire à deux échelles de temps radicalement différentes et qui pourtant, à partir de maintenant, s’entremêlent. L’auteur ne propose pas de solution toute faite ; il se contente d’éclairer la question. En bon humaniste, il ne peut que souhaiter en conclusion qu’Homo sapiens se transforme en Homo prudens.
