DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Fifteenth Annual Report of the Buffalo City Water Works, Buffalo, New York, for the Year 1883 Gentlemen: In compliance with Title fifteen, Sec tion ten of the City Charter, we have the honor herewith to submit to you the Fifteenth Annual Report of the Buffalo City Water Works. In presenting this report we have the satisfaction of stating that for the first time in the history of the Water Works they may be fairly considered self-sustaining, and this notwithstanding within a short timea reduction in rates has been made to domestic consumers of 33% per cent. And the meter rates to manufacturers and railroads has been cut from an average of nine cents down to three cents per gallons. The works in all departments have been kept in thor ough repair, and are now in excellent working condition. Removing the obstructions from the tunnel, repairs to coal and pumping houses, engine and boilers, fencing the grounds at the Holly House, and tile draining 800 hydrants, to prevent them from freezing, has largely increased expenditures. DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Nineteenth Annual Report of the Buffalo City Water Works, Buffalo, New York: For the Year 1887 Dwellings occupied by more than one family, each family. Bathing-tubs, private houses, each. With the proposed reduction, rates to domestic consumers have been reduced on an average of fifty per cent. During the term of the present Commissioners, and while it is a source of just pride with us to receive a large revenue for water, we are confident that the reduction as now recommended will not materially reduce it below what it was during the past year. The low charge made for water will greatly increase the number of new consumers, and stimulate the introduction of bath-tubs, etc., for use in private houses. If same meet with your approval, we would recommend that Section No.74 of Ordinances, Table of Annual Rates, as now established, be amended to read as above. The expense account of the year, as shown, includes the pur chase of tons of coal, the purchase price being very advantageous to the Department. We have an unusually large quantity on hand at the beginning of the year, which will apply on next year's account, and correspondingly reduce same. We are obliged to receive our full supply during season of canal navigation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
