DOWNLOAD EBOOKGregor Schneider (b. Rheydt, Germany, 1969; lives in Rheydt) is an influential and controversial artist whose work critics like to misunderstand. Disavowing the art object, he thinks by constructing spaces. In the mid1980s, he sought to pinpoint the idle state of action. He altered spaces by inserting duplicates, demolishing an economic way of thinking. Over the past fifteen years, he has gradually moved toward the field of politics and the public sphere. Schneider's works cross Germany's more recent history with the nonplaces of personal existence; he stages encounters between cultural moments that are alien to one another--for example, he wanted to build a black cube in the dimensions of the Kaaba outside St. Mark's Basilica in Venice (the plan was nixed by the censors). The catalogue aims to present his art as a cohesive whole spanning three decades. More than three hundred illustrations shed light on its stations; extensive annotations by Gregor Schneider himself and the editor and curator Ulrich Loock mark interconnections as well as contradictions within the oeuvre. The book touches on works Schneider created when he was thirteen, fourteen, fifteen years old (Adolescent Discontent, 1980s) as well as the insertion of spaces into a new venue (Dead House u r, 2001) or the grinding to dust of Joseph Goebbels's birthplace (The Spirit of the Nazi Era, 2015). It offers the firstever structured overview of Schneider's oeuvre in its entirety.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKPublished with the exhibition at the Galleria Nazionale d?Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome, this book brings together history, art, and industry in a single object: the vase. The vase has been the subject and object of a narrative in which artists and designers have portrayed, photographed, and reinvented it. It has filled roles as both an art object, with its intrinsic value, and an industrial object with the same functions and no less artistic value. Curated by Spanish designer Martí Guixé, the exhibition offers an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between artisanship, design, and contemporary art, and compare visual languages that are more similar than we may think. 00Exhibition: Galleria Nazionale d?Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome, Italy (16.07.-29.09.2019).

DOWNLOAD EBOOKLay prophets in Lutheran Europe (c. 1550–1700) is the first transnational study of the phenomenon of angelic apparitions in all Lutheran cultures of early modern Europe. Jürgen Beyer provides evidence for more than 350 cases and analyses the material in various ways: tracing the medieval origins, studying the spread of news about prophets, looking at the performances legitimising their calling, noting their comments on local politics, following the theological debates about prophets, and interpreting the early modern notions of holiness within which prophets operated. A full chronology and bibliography of all cases concludes the volume. Beyer demonstrates that lay prophets were an accepted part of Lutheran culture and places them in their social, political and confessional contexts.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAn illustrated A-to-Z tribute to old-fashioned items worth rediscovering: “Wistful . . . charming . . . like a stroll down memory lane.” —Elle Whatever happened to cuckoo clocks? Or bed curtains? Why do we have so many “friends” while doing away with the much more useful word “acquaintance”? All of these things, plus hot toddies, riddles, proverbs, corsets, calling cards, and many more, are due for a revival. Throughout this whimsical, beautifully illustrated encyclopedia of nostalgia, Lesley M.M. Blume breathes new life into the elegant, mysterious, and delightful trappings of bygone eras, honoring the timeless tradition of artful living along the way. Inspired by her much loved Huffington Post column of the same name and featuring entries from famous icons of style and culture, Let’s Bring Back leads readers to rediscover the things that entertained, awed, beautified, satiated, and fascinated in eras past. “Witty . . . recommended reading.” —Country Living “If you’re feeling lousy and you read this book, it awakens you to things that have made you happy in your life. It reminds you of a time when certain things ideas, gestures got you through . . . and revels in an idea of life that’s lived in 3-D, not 2-D.” —Sally Singer, editor, T: The New York Times Magazine
