Coe, of New York, who has a wonderful collection of her own, has added a very large number of descriptions, enhanced by pictures taken with her kodak. Many friends have contributed pictures, and to them our thanks are due. The Committee Wishes that it could reproduce in the book many more pictures Of very real interest which it has in its archives; but it has felt, in choosing the illustrations, that the pictures must be either typical or necessary to bring out some point under discussion. Therefore, those only have been chosen which exhibit American types or are interesting historically.
