DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Acts Passed at Thirteenth Annual Session of the General Assembly of the State of Alabama: Begun and Held in the Town of Tuscaloosa, on the Third Monday in November, 1831 W nistrator, heir, legatee, distributee, or husband, shall be liable to be indicted for each and every slave so introduced and failed to be returned; and on conviction, shall be fined in the sum of two hundred dollars, one half to the use of the State and the other half to the use of the informer, and shall be imprisoned until the fine and costs are paid, or discharged by due course of law. And if any slave or slaves shall, under color of this act, be brought or introduced into this State, by any emigrant, guar dian, executor oral ninistrator, heir, legatee, d.str.butee or bus ban 1, wtth intent to evade the provisions of this act, every such slave or slaves, shall be forfeited, and may be recovered, or the value thereof, by action of trover or detinue, from any person or persons having possession of any such slave or slaves, by any one who will sue for the same, one half to the use of the person so suing. And the other half to the use of the State. And the person or persons so introducing or brmging any such slave or slaves into this State, shall moreover be liable to be indicted for every slave so introduced or brought into this State; and on conviction, shall be fined in the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars, one half to the use of the State and the other half to the use'of the informer, and shall be imprisoned for the term of three months.
