DOWNLOAD EBOOKWhat I thought was my biggest fear was now staring me right in the face! I sat in a chair listening as the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) agents presented their case against me. They showed me pictures of me having meetings with all of my contacts. They even had voice recordings of some of the meetings I had attended. As I looked at the pictures, my only thought was that all these people were now dead! I was shocked when they did not arrest me. After presenting their case against me, they gave me one choice: "Leave Washington, DC, within forty-eight hours, and we will drop all the charges we have against you. If you are here after forty-eight hours, you will be arrested." I learned two things in that meeting. They didn't want me in jail, they wanted me dead like the others. I knew just how long it would be before it happened; fourty-eight hours. I felt like a caged animal with no way out. In the early 1970s during the Vietnam War, many young men returned home addicted to heroin. Methadone clinics were put in place in most major cities around the county to treat their addiction, but the addicts were refusing treatment at the Methadone clinics. City and government officials were feeling helpless in their efforts to combat this problem. This book tells how they addressed the problem, and why I found myself involved in this conspiracy without knowing I was.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAvailable in English for the first time, this short book is a powerful introduction to the spiritual wisdom of one of the Church's newest saints: Elizabeth of the Trinity. There was nothing extraordinary in Elizabeth of the Trinity's life. There were no ecstasies. She didn't work miracles. She didn't communicate heavenly messages through visions or words she heard. Instead, she presented a message to modern man through her own life of fidelity, showing us that the true road to contemplative prayer is not an ascent to grasp God, but a descent into the depths of one's heart. She teaches us that only by drawing our souls inward can we move toward bold abandonment and achieve immersion in God, thereby connecting our spiritual lives to the eternal praise of the saints in heaven. In our noisy culture, Elizabeth of the Trinity reminds us of God's power to establish in us a profound and peaceful stillness. She reminds us that that the Trinity is our home, and that God has created us in order to be united to Christ. In these pages, Sister Giovanna della Croce presents a brief and readable introduction to the teachings of Elizabeth of the Trinity, showing us the truth path to contemplative prayer. St. John Paul II considered Elizabeth of the Trinity to be one of the most influential mystics in his spiritual life. Now you, too, can begin incorporating in your own spiritual life the mystical wisdom of Elizabeth of the Trinity.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKHemda Horovitz is nearing the end of her life. As she lies in bed in Jerusalem, memories from the past flood her thoughts: her childhood in the kibbutz spent under the gaze of her stern, pioneer father; the lake that was her only solace; and her own two children-one she could never love enough, and the other whom she loved too much. Avner, the beloved child, has grown up to be a heavy, anguished man, disillusioned by his work and trapped in a loveless marriage. When visiting his mother in the hospital, he witnesses a devoted couple's final moments together; after the man's death Avner becomes obsessed with finding the woman, and a strange and delicate relationship unfolds. Dina, Hemda's daughter, has put aside her career in order to give her teenage daughter, Nitzan, the warmth she never received from her own mother. But Nitzan is withdrawing from her, and Dina is overcome by a longing to adopt another child-a longing that, if fulfilled, may destroy her fragile family. Zeruya Shalev's electrifying new novel is at once a meditation on the state of modern Israel and a profound exploration of family, yearning, compromise, and the insistent pull of the past.
