With his entire life in limbo, Owen Lane travels the country searching for a place to drop anchor, a job to interest him, and, most of all, his peace of mind. Fifteen years of working as a special foreign agent for government intelligence have left him bitter and lonely. He has recently quit his job with the Agency after an explosion killed his partner. While driving through northern Ohio, Owen stops at Hart & Mather bed and breakfast in the picturesque village of Sharon Center. He returns there three days later, lured by the peaceful location, the comfortable inn, and especially the gracious innkeeper, Heidi Bond. Thirty-four-year-old Heidi inherited the inn from her aunt and uncle and resigned from teaching to run it. Owen extends his stay at the 1840s inn to help out when the business manager requires emergency surgery. His soul and heart have found, at last, some calm and respite in the ambiance of the village and the inn. For deep-seated reasons Owen and Heidi mask their interest in each other at first. Circumstances lead them into an embrace which surprises them and intensifies their attraction. Owen, however, wants no entanglement because he knows that he will leave soon, and Heidi still harbors betrayal and deep hurt from a cruel fianc. The nightly goings and comings of two guests, Ivan and June Leathers, lead Heidi and Owen beyond curiosity. The two guests create a ribbon of suspense and possible skullduggery.

From Alexandra Horowitz, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Inside of a Dog, an eye-opening, informative, and wholly entertaining examination and celebration of the human-canine relationship for the curious dog owner and science-lover alike. We keep dogs and are kept by them. We love dogs and (we assume) we are loved by them. We buy them sweaters, toys, shoes; we are concerned with their social lives, their food, and their health. The story of humans and dogs is thousands of years old but is far from understood. In Our Dogs, Ourselves, Alexandra Horowitz explores all aspects of this unique and complex interspecies pairing. As Horowitz considers the current culture of dogdom, she reveals the odd, surprising, and contradictory ways we live with dogs. We celebrate their individuality but breed them for sameness. Despite our deep emotional relationships with dogs, legally they are property to be bought, sold, abandoned, or euthanized as we wish. Even the way we speak to our dogs is at once perplexing and delightful. In thirteen thoughtful and charming chapters, Our Dogs, Ourselves affirms our profound affection for this most charismatic of animals—and opens our eyes to the companions at our sides as never before.

A stunning and indelible collection of portraits and stories that capture dogs of a certain age in all their patchy, scruffy, jowly, and devoted glory—an homage to man’s best friend, based on the popular international photography project. The dogs in Old Faithful are well worn, well loved, and well on in years. After his grandmother’s 100th birthday party, photographer and dog lover Pete Thorne found himself taking photos of elderly dogs. In their aged, imperfect faces, he saw a depth of life, joy, and wisdom missing from more youthful subjects. He gathered these rich and powerful portraits into a web series he called “Old Faithful.” The reaction was instant—and astounding—from media outlets as diverse as Huffington Post and BuzzFeed to Esquire and ABC, to thousands of people around the globe who reached out to Thorne with their heartwarming stories of their own faithful companions. The photos triggered a wide variety of emotions, eliciting smiles and tears, and unleashing a flood of anecdotes and memories. “Old Faithful” became a shared platform for dog lovers all over the world. Based on his web series, Old Faithful features dozens of color photographs that bring these dogs vividly into focus, accompanied by poignant descriptive sketches that capture the spirit and personality of each, illuminate his life and experiences, and celebrate the shared relationship with a beloved human companion. A sweet and moving keepsake, Old Faithful demonstrates that aging can be beautiful, and offers profound lessons for all of us, no matter our age.

First published in 1996. This new book gives voice to an emerging consensus among bereavement scholars that our understanding of the grief process needs to be expanded. The dominant 20th century model holds that the function of grief and mourning is to cut bonds with the deceased, thereby freeing the survivor to reinvest in new relationships in the present. Pathological grief has been defined in terms of holding on to the deceased. Close examination reveals that this model is based more on the cultural values of modernity than on any substantial data of what people actually do. Presenting data from several populations, 22 authors - among the most respected in their fields - demonstrate that the health resolution of grief enables one to maintain a continuing bond with the deceased. Despite cultural disapproval and lack of validation by professionals, survivors find places for the dead in their on-going lives and even in their communities. Such bonds are not denial: the deceased can provide resources for enriched functioning in the present. Chapters examine widows and widowers, bereaved children, parents and siblings, and a population previously excluded from bereavement research: adoptees and their birth parents. Bereavement in Japanese culture is also discussed, as are meanings and implications of this new model of grief. Opening new areas of research and scholarly dialogue, this work provides the basis for significant developments in clinical practice in the field.

The name of my 1st book Is Unbreakable Bond.. Means a special bond with someone which may be friendship relationship of any time . Friendship also comes under relationship that we don't want to loose or a special bond that can't be broken by anyone .. I chose this because I felt .. Ours bond is very special which is more than friendship and relationship of any kind and I dont you to loose and our this special bond can't be broken by any 3rd person that I'm sure but it can be broken by us .. It's only us who can break this special bond because of misunderstanding, ego in between, or lack of conversation because a fruitful conversation is always required for clearing any such barrier ..So with this I'm dedicating a poem for the theme of my book "Unbreakable Bond" to my that special bond that I have with someone
