The QCD corrections to W production associated with a jet are studied using the ratio of W + 1 Jet to W + 0 Jets cross sections for a jet with a transverse energy of 25 GeV. The measured ratio of $0.096\pm0.005\sp{stat}\pm0.008\sp{syst}$ is significantly higher than the theoretical predictions of Giele et al. of 0.053. This discrepancy is at least partly due to the relatively unconstrained gluon distribution of the proton.

A preliminary measurement of the ratio, R1°, of the production cross sections for W + 1 Jet and W + 0 Jets processes at a center of mass energy, √s, of 1800 GeV by the D0 Collaboration is presented. A comparison of this ratio is made to next-to-leading- order, NLO, calculations and the implications of these comparisons, especially for the extraction of a value for the strong coupling constant?{sub s}(M {sub W}2), are discussed. 8 refs., 2 figs.

The proceedings of this series of annual symposia represent an extensive summary of the experimental and theoretical status of high energy physics at hadron colliders. This volume discusses the latest results on top and beauty physics, QCD, electroweak physics and searches for new particles. The prospects of this field for LHC, Tevatron and Hera machines are also reported.

This will be a required acquisition text for academic libraries. More than ten years after its discovery, still relatively little is known about the top quark, the heaviest known elementary particle. This extensive survey summarizes and reviews top-quark physics based on the precision measurements at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, as well as examining in detail the sensitivity of these experiments to new physics. Finally, the author provides an overview of top quark physics at the Large Hadron Collider.
