This book grew out of a series of messages Pastor Wade preached from II Peter. While he studied the passage to prepare the messages for the congregation, his heart was touched in a special way. He noticed that Peter had so much to say in so few words. Pastor was introduced to a whole new way of viewing the practical, working, and spirit filled Christian life. What he saw in this passage was that every Christian that lives the Spirit filled life, is looked upon as a hero in God's eyes. He noticed that what God attributed to heroism was very different than the human concept of what a hero looks like. It's a good feeling to know what pleases God and to know that you can do it. Pastor Wade felt a great need to share these practical principles of a hero's life with more than just his congregation. This book takes the precept and idea of "virtue" in your life and separates it into bite size pieces, easily digestible. Each concept of the virtuous life is explained and Pastor Wade even entertains the reader with some real life threatening experiences he had while he was a firefighter. These experiences relate to the concepts of the hero's life as you will see and the blessing is this; After you read this book you too will be equipped with the insider information you need to live a pleasing to God, Hero's Life In Christ!"

True heroes are not born heroes but are made heroes. Ultimately, our struggles and accomplishments inspire others. Great people come and go but the legacy is left behind for people to emulate, talk about and remember. This book is about a man that impacted my life. We should learn to appreciate the fact that in the natural world, great beings and intelligent beings dont die but continue living with the legacy left behind. The greatest of all people is Jesus Christ. He came on earth with a vision and goal to die in order to redeem others. He did not win for His own sake but He made all of us winners. He is our real icon of faith, peace, love, hope, redemption, unity, compassion, transparency, reconciliation, forgiveness, empathy... name it. This book is not just a biography but it is written in a compelling way to encourage your faith. Like all my books, it is not necessarily profiled to appeal to your emotions. It is written for the seekers of meaning and creators of legacy. Those of you who have read my books, the serial anecdotes point to the character of a teacher. I am a teacher by calling and write with prior intention to teach. I am neither a celebrated poet nor professional entertainer. Great story tellers leave you exited and wanting but a teacher leaves you thinking. I believe that a preacher that invokes your reasoning is the prince of the pulpit.

In 2012 I began writing (and designing) short devotional pieces. We posted them on Instagram thinking that our friends and family would politely like them. But to our absolute shock, complete strangers liked them, too. A few years on, and here we are. I never dreamed that Pocket Fuel would turn into this practice and lead me to you. I'm forever grateful for it, no matter how rudimentary and humble our beginnings were. Not too long into our Instagram experiment, we found ourselves asking deeper questions around our faith. Everything we thought we knew; thought we had a handle on; thought was secure and for always; was challenged, questioned, and stripped bare. We experienced tragedy at home, and at work. We quit our jobs as Pastors, and started from scratch (faith and vocation) in our mid thirties. But through what felt like the death of all we thought we knew and would be, we found beauty and community. Our faith has a vibrancy that it was once devoid of. And our questions and doubts? I no-longer feel guilty for having them. They are an active part of my faith.

The Bible is the inspired word of God, and every believer should study it in order to know the rich and vast content of God's divine provisions. When God speaks, He does so through His established eord. Therefore, we must study the Bible in a proper way in order to let the word of God dwell richly in our hearts. In order to study the Bible, we first must be proper persons, having passed through the necessary spiritual training under the Lord's leading and guiding. We must also use the right methods. Many good books have been printed on how to study the Bible, but most pay attention only to methods of studying the Bible; They do not pay enough attention to the person who studies the Bible. Even with the right methods, we can receive very little in our study of the Bible if Our person is not proper before the Lord.

Jesus is the center of Christian faith and the Bible is its holy book, its sacred scriptures. For hundreds of years, this meant that Jesus was divine and the Bible was a divine product. This remains the primary perspective for many Christians today. However, it has mutated appreciably for others. It is not that Jesus is no longer thought of as the center of Christian faith or the Bible as Christianitys sacred scriptures. Those remain true for everyone. However, studies in biblical criticism and the historical Jesus suggest Jesus was a Palestinian Jew a human being -- not different in that respect from you and me. Divinity was bestowed upon him by his followers, and eventually took the form of imperial divinity after the example of Caesar. This presents a conundrum for Christianity. What, for instance, is Christianity to do with a human being at its center? How has Christianity accommodated imperial rule? What do we do with those imperial titles by which he is known Lord, Savior, Redeemer, and Son of God? Taking Caesar out of Jesus presents a new portrait of Jesus based on solid historical evidence assembled from the works of hundreds of critical biblical scholars. As the subtitle proclaims, Jesus emerges from this book as a new figure, relevant to the 21st century. Some will say this new perspective destroys Christianity. Others will find Jesus to be far more believable and compelling. Anyone will find this progressive approach to uncovering the historical Jesus thought-provoking. This book, however, goes beyond biblical criticism and a new portrait of the historical Jesus. It confronts the Christian proclamation that Jesus is humanitys savior including the notion that it needs a savior. It suggests that the historical Jesus never embraced the well-known notion of divine salvation. To the contrary, Jesus embraced Judaisms wisdom tradition. In the wisdom tradition, a person deals with the exigencies of life by developing a new vision of reality, and by acting differently. Jesus did not provide an instruction manual for living; rather, he pointed us in the direction of self-management. As described in this book, this new way of living, taken from Jesuss parables and aphorisms, will startle some, and stir others toward greater maturity and responsibility for their own lives.
