My book's objective is to describe the beliefs, practices, and ventures of the Adventist church that have had or still have a significant impact on my life. Looking back, I now have a better understanding why ancient Israel was repeatedly told to remember what God had done for them. For this reason, there will be much reminiscing, retelling of personal experiences, and evaluating church teachings and decisions, all in the endeavor to make sense of what has happened. That can only take place if we bathe our words and expressions in grace, love and understanding. The book endeavors to answer the underlying question: what do we mean when we use the term "church"? What are the primary reasons for its existence? When you ask Adventists such a question, we hope they answer with a reply that is inspiring and practical. In presenting my view of Adventism over the past seventy-five years, it's had a positive effect on my knowing and understanding Jesus-and I hope the same goes for you!

McMillin, born into a non-religious family and wanting to know why God allows pain, turns to churches for answers, but finds only contentious diversity. Needing to broaden her search, she begins studying canonical as well as non-canonical Hebrew and Christian writings and adding history for context. Reading many kinds of secular and religious literature, conversing with people of many persuasions, and visiting diverse cultures around the world brings her many more insights from which to choose. Again and again life brings experiences that dramatically change her understanding of the sacred. In time, McMillin comes to cherish the doubts that bring joy and excitement to her unending search, but becomes content to be one of those who know they do not know (i.e., an agnostic).

Under the Pavilion of God’s Protection is a precisely researched and solidly written study of God’s protection of His Believers. Comparable to a day-by-day devotional, Pavilion is a broad-in-scope Biblical analysis of the Lord’s provision of protecting His Saints. The work digs deeply into just exactly what is meant by His grace, power and righteousness, as well as our strength, joy, freedom, comfort, and the varied ways in which He protects His own, etc. — too numerous to mention here. Peek inside and experience the teaching using the Biblical rank-and-file and God’s hand of guidance sheltering His own. The Scriptures colorfully bring to light the situations of life and illuminate the reader’s need to understand God’s ways in this arena.

Over his years of walking with Jesus, John—ambitious, opinionated, volatile—came to identify himself simply as “the disciple Jesus loved.” In 1 John, one of his letters, John presents Jesus Christ as the living expression of God’s love, the One who reveals to us the mind and heart of His Father. The apostle tells us what a relationship with Jesus looks like and how it should transform our attitudes and behaviors. This study guides you, or you and your group, through selected Bible passages, presents straightforward explanations and applications, and provides open-ended discussion questions. You will see yourself changed as you learn, because to know Jesus is to know love—and to know Jesus is to know God.
