DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe SEM Handbook of Experimental Structural Dynamics stands as a comprehensive overview and reference for its subject, applicable to workers in research, product design and manufacture, and practice. The Handbook is devoted primarily to the areas of structural mechanics served by the Society for Experimental Mechanics IMAC community, such as modal analysis, rotating machinery, structural health monitoring, shock and vibration, sensors and instrumentation, aeroelasticity, ground testing, finite element techniques, model updating, sensitivity analysis, verification and validation, experimental dynamics sub-structuring, quantification of margin and uncertainty, and testing of civil infrastructure. Chapters offer comprehensive, detailed coverage of decades of scientific and technologic advance and all demonstrate an experimental perspective. Several sections specifically discuss the various types of experimental testing and common practices utilized in the automotive, aerospace, and civil structures industries. · History of Experimental Structural Mechanics · DIC Methods - Dynamic Photogrammetry · LDV Methods · Applied Digital Signal Processing · Introduction to Spectral - Basic Measurements · Structural Measurements - FRF · Random and Shock Testing · Rotating System Analysis Methods · Sensors Signal Conditioning Instrumentation · Design of Modal Tests · Experimental Modal Methods · Experimental Modal Parameter Evaluation · Operating Modal Analysis Methods · Analytical Numerical Substructuring · Finite Element Model Correlation · Model Updating · Damping of Materials and Structures · Model Calibration and Validation in Structures · Uncertainty Quantification: UQ, QMU and Statistics · Nonlinear System Analysis Methods (Experimental) · Structural Health Monitoring and Damage Detection · Experimental Substructure Modeling · Modal Modeling · Response (Impedance) Modeling · Nonlinear Normal Mode Analysis Techniques (Analytical) · Modal Modeling with Nonlinear Connection Elements (Analytical) · Acoustics of Structural Systems (VibroAcoustics) · Automotive Structural Testing · Civil Structural Testing · Aerospace Perspective for Modeling and Validation · Sports Equipment Testing · Applied Math for Experimental Structural Mechanics Contributions present important theory behind relevant experimental methods as well as application and technology. Topical authors emphasize and dissect proven methods and offer detail beyond a simple review of the literature. Additionally, chapters cover practical needs of scientists and engineers who are new to the field. In most cases, neither the pertinent theory nor, in particular, the practical issues have been presented formally in current academic textbooks. Each chapter in the Handbook represents a ’must read’ for someone new to the subject or for someone returning to the field after an absence. Reference lists in each chapter consist of the seminal papers in the literature. This Handbook stands in parallel to the SEM Handbook of Experimental Solid Mechanics, where this Handbook focuses on experimental dynamics of structures at a macro-scale often involving multiple components and materials where the SEM Handbook of Experimental Solid Mechanics focuses on experimental mechanics of materials at a nano-scale and/or micro-scale.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWorld-class authors describe and illustrate how structural dynamics is applied to the engineering design process Structural Dynamics in Engineering Design covers the fundamentals of structural dynamics and its application to the engineering design process, providing all of the necessary information to implement an optimal design process. Each of its seven chapters is written by an expert in the field and provides the reader with the structural dynamic theoretical background and its more practical aspects for the implementation of an advanced design capability. The first three chapters are dedicated to the underlying theory of the three main processes: the fundamentals of vibration theory, the basis of experimental dynamics and the main numerical analysis tools (including reference to the finite element method). Having laid the foundation of the design philosophy, the following three chapters present the reader with the three disciplines of identification, nonlinear analysis and validation/updating. The final chapter presents some applications of the approach to real and complex engineering cases. Key features: Takes a multi-disciplinary approach and contains critical information on theory, testing and numerical analysis for structural dynamics. Includes a chapter on industrial applications (including aircraft design and ground vibration testing), which illustrates the design process and explains how structural dynamics is applied at different stages. The book is a must-have for researchers and practitioners in mechanical and aerospace engineering (in particular test engineers, CAE analysts and structural dynamicists), as well as graduate students in mechanical and aerospace engineering departments.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKCold hibernated elastic memory (CHEM) is an innovative, smart material technology that uses shape memory polymers in open cellular structures. This book extensively describes CHEM self-deployable structures, provides basic property data and characteristics, discusses advantages, and identifies numerous space, commercial, and medical applications. Some of these applications have been experimentally and analytically investigated with inspiring results and are revealed here. CHEM technology has a potential to provide groundbreaking self-deployable space structures. Some cutting-edge space CHEM concepts described in this book represent the introduction of a new generation of space deployable structures. CHEM materials have unique characteristics that enable the manufacture of self-deployable stents and other medical devices not possible currently. One of the medical applications, the CHEM endovascular treatment of aneurysm, is being experimentally explored with promising results that would save lives. This book provides a long list of interesting potential commercial CHEM applications that could simplify and make life easier at low cost. One of these products, the self-reconfiguring armchair, is already being set up for mass production. This book will be of interest to all engineering researchers, scientists, engineers, students, designers, and technologists across their relevant fields of interest. The exceptional characteristics of CHEM technology are presently enabling technologists to develop many applications ranging from outer space to inside the human body. As a result, CHEM structures are in the process of reshaping our thinking, approaches, and design methods in many ways that conventional materials and approaches do not allow.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn this study, a combination of experiments and analyses are performed to characterize the structural response of two variable stiffness composite panels to a series of thermal and mechanical loads. This characterization covers all phases of the structure's lifetime from design through global failure. These panels are advanced composite structures in which the fiber orientation angle varies continuously as tows are laid down along predefined curvilinear paths within each ply. The panels are manufactured from AS4/977-3 graphite-epoxy prepreg using an advanced tow placement system. Both variable stiffness panels have the same nominal layup, but one panel (the panel with overlaps) has overlapping tow bands of varying thickness and the other panel (the panel without overlaps) has a theoretically uniform-thickness laminate. A conventional uniform-thickness panel with a straight-fiber [ 45]5s layup (the baseline panel) is also evaluated..."
