John Tillotson (ca. 1618-ca. 1670), of England, arrived in Massachusetts in 1635. He married Dorcas Coleman, and they had six children. The family moved to Connecticut ca. 1660. A seventh generation descendant, Samuel Curtis Tillotson (1832-1884), of Wisconsin, married Lucinda Vaughn (1833-1918), a daughter of William Marks Vaughn and Elizabeth Whitman, in 1853. Many descendants live in the midwestern United States.

John Tillotson was born in about 1793 in Foulridge, Lancashire, England. His parents were Jonathan Tillotson and Ellen. He married Mary Rycroft 10 July 1814 in Colne, Lancashire, England. They had eleven children, five of whom married and had children. They moved to Bradford, Yorkshire in about 1821. John became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in January 1845 and he died in February 1845. Mary and her five surviving children emigrated in 1850 and settled in St. Louis, Missouri. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Missouri, Arkansas, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and California.
