Since. furthermore, the appropriation called for is but one-tenth of one per cent of the total expenditures of the State, an appreciable reduction in taxes cannot be accomplished by neglecting education in social hygiene. Effective Meetings in Heppner and Condon. In response to an invitation from a committee of Heppner citizens consisting of County Judge Patterson, Mr. T. J. Mahoney, Cashier of the First National Bank, and the writer, on December 10 about 110 men assembled at the High School Auditorium for conference. Dr. A. D. Mchlurdo, of Heppner, gave an interesting and instructive address on "The extent and Results of Sexual Vice"; Prof. H. H. Hoffman, Principal of the Heppner schools, followed with a timely talk on the present conditions among boys and girls. Dr. J. E. Snyder, of Portland, then discussed the-"Causes and Remedies" in a masterful ad dress, which was listened to with the closest attention. The impressions which this address made will not be forgotten soon. After the meeting a group of fine young men from the High School gathered around Dr. Snyder, and he held with them a valuable informal conference. The writer was the last speaker on the program and offered a few suggestions as to what we may do for Morrow County. A motion was made and carried making the local committee a permanent committee to keep in touch with the Society and to further the work in this county. The chairman of the meeting, Mr. C. E. Woodson, made some excellent remarks both in opening and closing the meetmg. The interest manifested at this meeting is evidence of the awakening interest in this subject in the community.
