It didn't take long after Jimi Hendrix's death for the artist to become a myth of music. He has been surrounded by a shroud of intrigue since he first came into the public eye, and the mystery has only grown with time. Much has been written and said about him by experts and fans and critics, some of it true and some of it not; Starting at Zero will set the record straight. This is Hendrix in his own words. The lyricism and rhythm of Jimi Hendrix's writing will be of no surprise to his fans. Hendrix wrote prolifically throughout his life and he left behind a trove of scribbled-on hotel stationary, napkins and cigarette cartons. Starting at Zero weaves the scraps and bits together fluidly with interviews and lyrics revealing for the first time a continuous narrative of the artist's life, from birth through to the final four years of his life. The result is a beautifully poetic, charming and passionate memoir as smooth and memorable as Hendrix's finest songs. The pieces of Starting at Zero came together in large part because of the inspiration of Alan Douglas. Douglas first met Jimi Hendrix backstage at Woodstock, and soon after became Hendrix's producer and close friend. In creating the book he joined forces with Peter Neal, who edited Hendrix's writing with the reverence and light touch it deserved.

The Material of this Autobiography, which Mahatma Gandhi has called The Story of My Experiments with Truth, was first dictated by him in his own mother-tongue to one of his fellow political prisoners during long imprisonment in the years 1922-24. It was afterward continued in a serial form, as a feature of his Gujarati paper, called Navajivan, and translated into English by his intimate friends, Mahadev Desai and Pyarelal Nair, receiving at the same time his own careful revision. Miss Slade, who is known in Mr. Gandhi's Asram as Mirabehn, also assisted in shaping its final English form. The whole series of short chapters has now been published by the Navajivan Press at Ahmedabad in two large volumes, containing over twelve hundred octavo pages. Another book of equal importance has been used, wherein Mahatma Gandhi describes personally his own (Soul-Force) in South Africa, and the translation has been made by Valji Govindji Desai. Its Indian publisher is Mr. S. Ganesan, Triplicane, Madras, India. When we turn to the three volumes and try to gain the clue to Mahatma Gandhi's estimate of human conduct, it will be found to entre in three cardinal virtues, current in all his writings. These are Truth, Loving-kindness, and inner purity. Since this book was compiled and edited the Indian situation has become very grave indeed.

This upbeat memoir is full of the edgy humor Patti Ann Browne’s fans love. She takes an honest look at the highs and lows of her life, both on and off the air. She provides insights into the turbulent world of television news and weaves in advice for aspiring journalists, parents of preemies, working moms, and anyone trying to stay grounded in a world that increasingly values superficiality. In this entertaining and intimate memoir, the woman known by fans as “The Notorious P.A.B.” reveals why she walked away from her TV news career after three decades. Patti Ann Browne also shares funny and poignant stories of her life off camera—from how she met her husband four years after turning down a blind date with him, to her son’s near death shortly after his premature birth and how it changed her perspective on life. She chronicles life as an “Irish triplet,” and tells the dramatic story of her twin sister secretly placing a baby for adoption and being reunited with him decades later. While many books declare that you can “have it all,” Patti Ann dares to say no one can…but with flexibility and gratitude, you can come close. From local cable to MSNBC and then Fox, the #1 cable news network in America, Patti Ann describes her determination to write her own story. She resists the pressures of climbing to the top and the sacrifices that entails, ultimately choosing faith and family. From her humble upbringing in Queens to rubbing elbows daily with the world’s movers and shakers in Manhattan, Patti Ann explains how she found a way to enjoy the perks of the glamorous life of an anchor while (mostly) avoiding the pitfalls. Fiercely protective of her middle-class lifestyle, Patti Ann believes simple pleasures are life’s greatest joys. Her uplifting story is one of following your heart, owning your mistakes, living with integrity, and leaving the rest to God. Rooted in faith and optimism, it’s a redemptive tale of humility and serendipity. Patti Ann demonstrates that with hard work and a willingness to change course, we can all write a life story with a happy ending.
