DOWNLOAD EBOOKA measurement of the double-differential inclusive dijet production cross section in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV is presented as a function of the dijet invariant mass and jet rapidity. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns, recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurement covers the dijet mass range 0.2 TeV to 3.5 TeV and jet rapidities up to.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWe present the first measurement of two-particle momentum correlations in jets produced in p$\bar{p}$ collisions at center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. A comparison of the experimental data to theoretical predictions obtained for partons within the framework of resummed perturbative QCD (Next-to-Leading Log Approximation) shows that the predicted parton momentum correlations survive the hadronization stage of jet fragmentation and are present at the hadron level. We also present the measurement of the intrinsic transverse momenta of particles with respect to jet axis (kT). Experimental data is compared to the theoretical predictions obtained for partons within the framework of Modified Leading Log Approximation and Next-to-Modified Leading Log Approximation, and shows good agreement in the range of validity of the theoretical predictions. The results of both measurements indicate that the perturbative stage of the jet formation must be dominant and give further support to the hypothesis of Local Parton-Hadron Duality.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe production of a Z boson, decaying into two leptons and produced in association with one or more b jets, is studied using proton-proton collisions delivered by the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The data were recorded in 2011 with the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb-1. The Z(ll) + b-jets cross sections (where ll = [mu][mu] or ee) are measured separately for a Z boson produced with exactly one b jet and with at least two b jets. In addition, a cross section ratio is extracted for a Z boson produced with at least one b jet, relative to a Z boson produced with at least one jet. The measured cross sections are compared to various theoretical predictions, and the data favour the predictions in the five-flavour scheme, where b quarks are assumed massless. The kinematic properties of the reconstructed particles are compared with the predictions from the MadGraph event generator using the pythia parton shower simulation.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe inclusive jet cross section is measured in pp collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC using the CMS experiment. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34 inverse picobarns. The measurement is made for jet transverse momenta in the range 18-1100 GeV and for absolute values of rapidity less than 3. The measured cross section extends to the highest values of jet pT ever observed and, within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties, is generally in agreement with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWe report on a search for a dijet resonance in events with only two or three jets and large imbalance in the total event transverse momentum. This search is sensitive to the possible production of a new particle in association with a W or Z boson, where the boson decays leptonically with one or more neutrinos in the final state. We use the full data set collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider at a proton-antiproton center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. These data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 9.1 fb{̂-1}. We study the invariant mass distribution of the two jets with highest transverse energy. We find good agreement between data and standard model background expectations and measure the combined cross section for WW, WZ, and ZZ production to be 13.8{̂+3.0}_{-2.7} pb. No significant anomalies are observed in the mass spectrum and 95% credibility level upper limits are set on the production rates of a potential new particle in association with a W or Z boson.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKPolarized deep inelastic scattering (DIS) experiments indicate that quarks only carry approximately 30% of the proton spin, which led to interest in measuring the contributions of other components. Through polarized proton-proton collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), the world's only polarized proton collider, it is possible to make an extraction of the polarized gluon distribution function [delta]g(x). This function describes the contribution of the gluon polarization to the proton spin. This thesis presents a measurement of the p + p ---> Jet + Jet + X (dijet) cross section from the 2005 RHIC running period and a measurement of the longitudinal double spin asymmetry ALL from the 2009 RHIC running period, both made using the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR). The cross section is measured over the invariant mass range 20
