"The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has prepared this Initial Study with Proposed Negative Declaration (IS/ND) for the State Route (SR) 116 - Stage Gulch Road/Lakeville Highway Intersection Safety Project (Project). Caltrans proposes two Build Alternatives to improve the safety of this intersection at post mile (PM) 39.3 on SR 116 in Sonoma County: Build Alternative 1 would install traffic signals, or Build Alternative 2 would construct a roundabout. Additional Project information is provided in Chapter 2. Caltrans is the lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This IS/ND describes why Caltrans proposes the Project, how the existing environment could be affected by the Project, potential environmental impacts, and the Project features and avoidance and minimization measures that would minimize Project impacts."--Page i.
