"The registers of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in New York City are extremely rich in several respects: first, there is a tremendous quantity of vital statistics about persons, chiefly of German background, to whom this parish ministered. Second, because of the Germanic nature of the congregation, it provided ministry to many who were in New York in transit to other portions of the country as immigrants. Third, because of its record of European homes of pioneers, it contains valued data often not to be found elsewhere. Unfortunately the records of the church were kept in many volumes with some overlap as to years covered and also of individual records.
